Weed Control
Imagine what our world would look like if we didn’t control weeds. It wouldn’t be healthy or pretty.
TYPES OF WEED CONTROL
First, there is a difference between weed control and weed killers. Weed control, as it sounds, controls the growth and spread of weeds until the desired species are healthy enough to compete, thereby stopping their growth. Weed killers, i.e., Round-Up-type products, are just that—killers, and they kill everything, not just weeds.
Without getting into chemistry…
- Some weed controls are formulated to attack all weeds all season long. These weed controls are dangerous for humans, animals, and the environment. 4 Seasons Lawn Care will not use these.
- Some weed controls are safer formulations but have limitations. These weed controls are very effective in cooler weather and much less effective in the heat but are extremely safe for humans, animals, and the environment.
- Other weed controls are actual killers that work all season and kill anything they touch, i.e. Round-Up. (Side note about Round-Up: There has been lots of news about how dangerous it is, don’t believe everything you hear. The active ingredient is safe when used properly by well-trained professionals. 4 Seasons Lawn Care has used this product for 30+ years with no health issues at all)
EFFECTIVENESS OF WEED CONTROL
Timing and type of weed is everything.
- The ‘safe’ weed control 4 Seasons Lawn Care uses is most effective in cooler temperatures when the weed’s pores are open and readily absorbing. Timing is less important for the dangerous forms of weed control.
- The type of weed is also a major factor in the effectiveness of the weed control. Weeds that need water to thrive are easily killed throughout the season. Weeds that thrive in rocks and vacant lots where they do not receive regular water are more difficult to control but are easily killed in the cooler months.

Below are the most common weeds found in our area, grouped by easy-to-kill and non-easy-to-kill.
